Automated administration without handling the active syringe

Certification in progress: Lyza is undergoing conformity assessment as a Class IIb medical device under Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR). Completion is expected in Q1 2027; until then the device does not bear the CE marking and cannot be placed on the EU market.

Computer-controlled, automated administration of a pre-prepared radiopharmaceutical dose from a syringe, followed by an automatic saline flush.

The syringe stays in its shield when located in the device; the operator controls the whole process from the control computer at a distance.

The flow rate is set continuously from 0.01 ml/s to 6.94 ml/s (depending on the syringe size). Syringes of 3, 5, 10, 20 and 30 ml can be used for the radiopharmaceutical; a 20 ml saline syringe primes the administration set and flushes it after the dose has been administered.

Only standard, commonly available consumables are used.

Advantages

  • No manual handling of the active syringe during administration
  • Built-in 20 mm Pb shielding plate between the syringes and the operator
  • Continuously adjustable flow rate 0.01–6.94 ml/s
  • Automatic flush of the active syringe and tubing – less residual activity in the waste
  • Delayed start – time to step away before the administration begins
  • Standard consumables only – no special disposable kits

  • Manual control wheels – the administration can always be completed manually
  • Emergency STOP button on the device; stop also by touching the screen
  • Battery powered – min. 3 hours of continuous administration time
  • Colour coding of syringe sizes in the software, on the push-rod extensions, LEDs and syringe shields
  • Removable slider for easy decontamination

Purpose and use

The Lyza administering unit is intended for controlled, automated administration of a pre-prepared dose of a radiopharmaceutical from a syringe to a patient and for the subsequent automatic flush with saline in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in nuclear medicine. At the same time, it is intended to limit the radiation exposure of the operating staff.

Intuitive and user-friendly software

  • Selection of the syringe size (colour-coded) and flow rate on the main screen; an information screen summarises all parameters before the start
  • Visualisation of both syringes, estimated time to the end of administration and battery status of the unit and the control computer
  • Configurable flush: separate saline flow rate, repeated flushing of the active syringe, flush volume, accelerated final flush and delayed start
  • Two access levels (user / authority)
  • Touch-screen control computer with the software installed is supplied with the device; it is operated without an internet connection

¹ The maximum flow rate depends on the syringe used (6.94 ml/s with a 30 ml syringe). ² Luer-Lock; 2 ml syringes (Chirana) also supported. ³ Continuous administration time.

Accessories – syringe shields

A syringe shield matching the syringe type and the radiopharmaceutical must always be used: PET shields for diagnostic and Lu shields for therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. Shields already owned with other Lynax devices can be used; missing types can be ordered separately.
